Nitrogen Fertilizer Reformed by Science

Reform Bio transforms biowaste into sustainable, high-performing, slow-release fertilizers. Farmers can apply 190 lbs of Nitrogen in a single pass, don't need to change their practices, and our biological fertilizer synchronizes the nutrient availability with plant needs.

More Bushels, More Profit, Less Waste.

Biowaste

to Value

  • We upcycle locally sourced corn stover and livestock manure into high-surface-area biochar.

  • Our proprietary Reform™ process activates this biowaste and binds plant-available nutrients, creating the base of our slow-release fertilizers.

  • Reform Bio returns value to corn growers and livestock producers while creating a high-performing product to improve our ecosystems and farms.

Environmentally

Friendly

  • Carbon kept in the soil: up to 700 lb/acre of stable carbon sequestered as biochar for centuries.

  • Designed to minimize COâ‚‚ and Nâ‚‚O by holding nutrients in a carbon matrix and metering release in the root zone, minimizing greenhouse gases.

  • Reform Bio has 50% less nitrate leaching in controlled ISU tests vs. urea. This means our waterways are safe from excessive nitrates.

Improved

Crop Performance

  • Works with existing operations: blendable and spreadable with standard tenders and farm equipment.

  • Plant-synchronized nutrition: Reform™ SRF releases N slowly, supporting strong emergence and steady in-season feeding. Saving growers $20/acre on in-season passes

  • Yield uplift with controlled-release N: 5-15% higher corn yield on average vs. conventional urea at the same N rate

Farm Fertilizers Need Reform

Today’s nitrogen fertilizers drive crop yields, but they’re inefficient for farmers and harmful to our ecosystems. Up to half the nitrogen applied is lost to leaching, runoff, or gas emissions, wasting farmer dollars and contributing to nitrate pollution and climate risk.

Reform Bio’s patented Nitrogen Reformed fertilizers change that. We use biochar to deliver nitrogen slowly, in sync with crop needs, reducing loss and maximizing plant uptake. Our solution works within existing farmer and co-op operations, improves plant performance, and allows farmers to skip the in-season nitrogen applications.

Farmers
Perspective

"Slow-release fertilizers say they help time nutrients with crop demand, allow me to reduce my in-season Nitrogen fertilizer applications, and protect yields.

If it pencils out, I'm all in."

-Minnesota Corn Farmer

Why Now?

Nitrate pollution is rising, and so are the consequences.

Nitrate is essential for crop growth, but its mobility in soil and water makes it prone to leaching into streams, rivers, and aquifers. This leads to serious health risks, dead zones in aquatic ecosystems, and mounting public scrutiny over fertilizer runoff.

Reform Bio’s Nitrogen Reformed™ fertilizer offers a timely solution.

As a slow-release fertilizer (SRF), it delivers nitrogen in sync with plant demand.

In 2025, the incentives will get even stronger for corn growers.

The new 45Z Tax Credit offers up to $1 per gallon to ethanol producers who lower their carbon intensity. Farmers using slow-release fertilizers like Nitrogen Reformed™ help unlock those premiums, creating shared value across the supply chain.

Nitrogen Reformed™

Reform Bio’s first-generation slow-release nitrogen fertilizer was developed over five years in collaboration with PhDs at Iowa State University.
Field trials begin in Fall 2025, with a limited commercial release targeted for Fall 2026.

Activated

Biochar

  • Biochar is a stable, carbon-rich material created from biowaste such as corn stover that improves soil structure and retains nutrients.

  • Our proprietary activation process enhances biochar’s surface chemistry for better nutrient binding and extended release.

7.png

Manure-Derived Nutrients

  • We extract elemental nitrogen from livestock waste, replacing synthetic inputs and import costs.

  • Our proprietary process binds these nutrients to the biochar base.

  • This circular approach transforms waste into value, reducing reliance on fossil-based fertilizers.

Pellatized &

Coated SRF

  • Fertilizer is pelletized and coated with a non-toxic food-grade coating to control nutrient release and ensure easy application.

  • Bio-based SRF delivers long-lasting, plant-synchronized fertilization with improved handling and field performance.
